How Do You Wash Your Hi Vis Winter Jacket?
Start with machine washing the safety jacket with like colors in cold water on a delicate cycle, using a mild detergent. It's important not to use bleach or fabric softener, as these can damage the jacket's materials and reflective properties. After washing, tumble dry the jacket on low heat and remove it from the dryer immediately to prevent any damage to the reflective tape. Avoid ironing or dry cleaning the jacket.
When laundering high-visibility clothing, including safety vests, be cautious not to mix it with garments that have a rough finish, as this can wear off the microscopic glass beads on the reflective tape. For the best care, turn the garments inside out before washing them. This practice protects the reflective tape and helps maintain the garment's breathability and wicking properties by avoiding fabric softeners, which can leave a residue.
Line drying your garments is preferred to preserve the life of the reflective tape. However, if you use a dryer, remove the garment promptly to avoid the heat damaging the reflective tape. Although our polyester garments are designed not to bleed, washing them with other light-colored fabrics is advisable to maintain the intensity of the fluorescent color.
Remember, regular washing is essential not just for hygiene but also to maintain the jacket's visibility. Dirt and grime from work can reduce the intensity of the fluorescent color, making it less effective in ensuring visibility and safety.
